Job Description


Cellerate is looking for an enthusiastic embedded software engineer with knowledge of firmware and backend software development. As an embedded software engineer, you will be responsible for developing applications for automation systems. You will have the autonomy and responsibility to create frameworks, utilise libraries to meet functional requirements, and cooperate with the rest of the team to integrate hardware and software into Cellerate's systems. The role is based in the Manchester city centre; hybrid remote work is a possibility. The hours of work are 37.5 hours per week, typically from 9am to 6pm but we offer flexibility.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Design, develop, and test and software applications for automation systems
  • Establish efficient methods for developing software
  • Collaborate with other engineers to define functional requirements and build prototypes
  • Contribute innovative ideas and solutions to solve problems
  • Create and maintain technical documentation
  • Contribute improvements to the team’s working practices
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and prioritise work
  • Ability to carry out work in an organised manner

Qualifications & Skills


  • Knowledge of firmware development and ability to understand schematics
  • Experience in writing with Python and C languages
  • Experience working with SoCs and single board computers such as Raspberry Pi
  • Experience programming microcontrollers including STM32
  • Experience with communication protocols such as UART, CAN, or I2C
  • Experience producing technical documentation


  • 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of computer vision and image processing
  • Experience with networking protocols including TCP, IP, and Wi-Fi
  • Experience programming for web deployment
  • Based in or around Manchester area

Salary & Benefits

  • £30,000 - £50,000 per year, full-time, depending upon professional experience
